Home Town

You will encounter history around every corner in the historic Old Town. Right in the centre lies the lively Buttermarkt (Butter Market) and strolling through the alleys and lanes will bring you to the castle formerly belonging to the Electorate of Cologne and, alongside it, the former Franciscan Monastery with the Church of Our Father (now used as the Town’s Kramer Museum and the Museum for Lower Rhine Sacred Art). Remains of the old town wall with its tower windmill and ‘Kuhtor’ town gate, the traditional ‘Bockwindmühle’ style of windmill in Tönisberg und the old ‘Berfes’ store tower in St. Hubert complete the townscape in Kempen.
